Plains eryngo "Blaukappe" (Sea Holly) - Eryngium planum.
An original, graceful and very delicately decorative perennial!
An upright perennial herbaceous plant from the Apiaceae family, 60-70 cm high.
Origin: Central and South-Eastern Europe, Central Asia.
This variety comes from the sterile variety "Blauer Zwerg" (Blue Dwarf): it grows a little higher, but it can be easily reproduced by seeds.
The stems are branched, strong, bluish. The leaves are hard, pinnately dissected, spiny-toothed, three- and five-partite. The flowers are small, bright blue in color, form a capitate inflorescence up to 3 cm in diameter, which is surrounded by large, slightly spiny leaflets-wrappers.
Natural flowering period: July - September (35-40 days).
It is not demanding to the soil, but grows better on dry and loose soils (with the addition of sand and lime) in sunny places.
Winter hardiness zones: Z4 - Z8.
It is used for group plantings on lawns, distant borders, in floristry.
Agricultural technology.
Eryngium is propagated by seeds, sowing them mainly in the fall. Before spring sowing, the seeds are stratified in wet sand (in the refrigerator) for 1.5-2 months. At a soil temperature of +20°C, shoots appear in 20-30 days.
1.0 g = 690 seeds.

Eng.: Sea Holly, blue eryngo, flat sea holly, plains eryngo.
